The Leadership Campaign on AIDS (TLCA), a community-based, public-private partnership, was designed to galvanize and support minority community efforts to control and ultimately prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS. BETAH designed, developed, produced, and managed a variety of products, services, and events that included: print and broadcast PSAs, press materials, and conferences; strategic media plans; the purchase of media time and space; Web site design; and a range of customized programs and initiatives that supported TLCA’s goals.
BETAH’s support enabled TLCA to educate, motivate, and mobilize leaders in hard-to-reach communities. New partners joined the campaign each year, enhancing the distribution of HIV/AIDS prevention and awareness messages. Accomplishments included: the development, management, and production of The Surgeon General’s African American Community HIV/AIDS Satellite Conference; the production of two World AIDS Day events with faith groups that reached more than 17,000 individuals; the development of educational tools used by the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, Secretariats for African American and Hispanic Catholics; the coordination of an HIV/AIDS training conference for The Salvation Army USA’s Eastern Territory; the creation and placement of print and radio PSAs; the coordination of a national teleconference on HIV/AIDS in rural minority communities; the coordination of press conferences with leading Federal health officials; the design of an illustrative comic strip; media placement in Sister Sister magazine; service on the steering committee for National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day; and participation in numerous health fairs that reached approximately 16,900 individuals.
